Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Fraser Valley Regional District website.

One soon runs out of superlatives when describing the vibrancy and diversity of the Fraser Valley Regional District.  It features everything from high quality, urban living in one of several large metropolitan areas to the most pristine places on earth.  One can literally be skiing in the morning and golfing in the afternoon.

The region’s population centers are among the fastest growing economies in the country and feature incredible cultural and economic diversity.  The region is well served by major transportation, including the Abbotsford International Airport for those wishing to travel pretty much anywhere and the West Coast Express in Mission for those who need to commute to the metro-Vancouver area.  The region is also served by 5 Provincial Highways, the Trans Canada Highway and the CN, CP and Southern Rail train system.

People from all over the world call the FVRD “home” and the many festivals, special events and performances reflect the diversity of the region.  The region’s agricultural fairs and exhibitions are legendary with the Chilliwack Exhibition topping the attendance mark at over 50,000 visitors annually.  From a Corn Festival in Agassiz, folk music in Mission, blues in Hope and the world renowned Harrison Festival of the Arts, residents and visitors can experience music and culture from around the globe.

Perhaps the greatest gift bestowed to the FVRD is nature itself.  The great outdoors is literally at your doorstep.  Within minutes of the urban centers is a world of unparalleled beauty and wonder.  The FVRD, through its Regional Parks Department is continually expanding the network of parks, protected areas and recreation management areas to ensure that these magical places are preserved for generations to come.  Each of our 8 rural Electoral Areas features world class recreation and leisure opportunities.  Quite literally…

THE BEST fishing, scenery, parks, attractions, recreational lakes, skiing, hiking … IN THE WORLD!

I hope that you will find the information provided to you on this website interesting and useful.  We welcome any comments or suggestions to info@fvrd.bc.ca on how we may serve you better.
