Being prepared at home and at work is crucial in an emergency. Make sure that you and your family know what to do before, during, and after an emergency. There are many situations, such as floods, debris flows, earthquakes, wildland fires, snow storms, and technological accidents that can strike at any time.
It is important to realize that hazards exist everywhere in our homes and communities. The preparation of individuals and families is nescessary for peace of mind during an emergency. When an emergency happens family members may be separated for extended periods of time. The public may also be without assistance for at least 72 hours or longer.
It is a good idea for all family members to have emergency kits. A family emergency plan should also be made and practiced regularly. In some situations family memebers may not be able to get to the planned meeting place. For this reason families should designate an out of area contact person that family members can check in with if regular communication systems are disrupted.
