What is the Wood Stove Exchange Program?

The Program encourages residents to exchange their old, non-EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certified wood burning stove or insert for a low emissions appliance, including a new CSA/EPA certified wood stove/insert, or other qualifying appliance. New technology wood burning appliances are proven to burn 1/3 less wood, to reduce emissions by up to 70%, and significantly reduce the risk of chimney fires.

The program is operated at a community level through grants provided by the Province.

Program participants are eligible to receive a $250 rebate, providing that their old appliance has been rendered non-reusable and has been recycled at a scrap metal facility. Rebates are limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Who can participate?

Residents living within the FVRD's Electoral Areas (A to G) and member municipalities (Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Harrison Hot Springs, Hope, Kent and Mission) can participate.

Residents living outside of the FVRD who are replacing an old wood stove/insert on a property located within the FVRD may be able to participate. However, restrictions may apply, so please check with the Program Coordinator.

Please review the list of appliances that can be exchanged under the program, and appliances that can replace a non-EPA wood burning appliances.

Participating Retailers

There are 13 retailers participating in the FVRD's Wood Stove Exchange Program. However, if you find a suitable appliance from a retailer who is not on this list, please contact the Program coordinator to find out how to proceed. If you would like to become a Participating Retailer, please contact the Program Coordinator.
