Residents of the Fraser Valley Regional District, like much of North America, have access to enhanced 9-1-1 (E911) service. An easy to remember number, 9-1-1 puts residents in touch with police, fire or medical help in their hour of need. It’s important to remember that 9-1-1 should be used in EMERGENCY situations only. This would include a crime in progress or any other life-threatening situation requiring prompt attention, medical emergencies and fire calls. The regional district is served by 9-1-1 primary service access points in Abbotsford and Chilliwack. From there the phone call is downstreamed to police, fire or ambulance call takers. E911 is designed to remain active and operable during high call volume periods and during disaster situations. The FVRD’s E911 system handled in excess of one hundred thousand calls last year. This figure is growing at a rate of roughly five percent annually. Take a few minutes and read our 9-1-1 FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) for further information.
