The Fraser Valley Regional District's mosquito control program has been operating since the early 1980's, and has developed into one of the largest mosquito control programs in Canada!
All mosquito control activities in the FVRD are part of an Integrated Pest Management Program, and all control methods are carefully implemented with the least possible impact on human health and the environment.
The largest and most effective part of our mosquito control efforts relies on biological control, which ONLY uses environmentally friendly bacterial pesticides.
The appearance of West Nile Virus (WNV) in North America has raised the profile of mosquito control activities across Canada and BC.
Residents are becoming increasingly familiar with ways to reduce mosquito populations in their neighborhoods, alerting the appropriate parties of new larval mosquito development areas, and discussing WNV risk-related issues with mosquito control staff. Even kids are jumping on board and learning how to reduce mosquitoes around their homes!
